Federal funding for energy and resource efficiency in the economy:
Dear members of the Ecoliance network,
We are pleased to inform you about the newly launched funding program "Energy and Resource Efficiency in the Economy" (EEW), which was launched on February 15, 2024 by the Federal Government, supervised by the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) and in cooperation with KfW under program 295. This funding programme is an important pillar for achieving the ambitious targets of greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045 and supporting the German economy on its path to decarbonization.
Who is eligible to apply?
The program is open to a wide range of organizations:
- Private companies of all sizes,
- Municipal companies in private legal form,
- State enterprises in private legal form,
- Freelancers, provided the business premises are predominantly used for freelance activities,
- Contractors who carry out specified measures on behalf of companies eligible to apply.
- Funding objectives and measures
The program aims to significantly increase energy and resource efficiency and promote the use of renewable energies in order to reduce energy requirements and greenhouse gas emissions. It places a special focus on the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and comprises a variety of funding modules:
- Cross-cutting technologies,
- Process heat from renewable energies,
- measurement, control and regulation technology,
- Optimization of energy and resource requirements,
- Preparation of transformation plans,
- Electrification of small companies.
- Application and funding conditions
Applications can now be submitted via the electronic application forms on the BAFA website for modules 1-4 and 6. Applications for transformation plans are submitted via VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH.
The funding is granted as partial financing, either in the form of a non-repayable grant or a repayment grant, depending on the specific funding module. This includes investments in technologies and measures that improve energy efficiency, increase the use of renewable energies and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Important information and time limit
The program has been updated in line with the latest EU legal framework and the General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER). It will enter into force on February 15, 2024, replacing the previous directive of May 8, 2023, with a term until December 31, 2028.
We encourage all members to consider the possibilities of this funding program and to apply for support for projects that not only improve their own sustainability but also contribute to achieving national climate targets.
